Seems to work in principle much like a SlingBox but will allow you to easily watch on a TV with a regular tuner.George Hines (mrthreeplates)https://www.blogger.com/profile/14804507713384890711noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-890305359381273217.post-32691428388822414242010-11-05T17:53:53.955-07:002010-11-05T17:53:53.955-07:00I've had great success rebroadcasting content ...I've had great success rebroadcasting content from my cable company's DVR to all the other rooms in my house that are wired with coax using a modulator such as the Channel Plus 5545 device. Then I just use a remote extender like the ATH-418 RF battery sleeve transmitters to control that cable box from anywhere in the home.

It's really convenient because you can pause and resume any content in any room. Obviously, only one content stream is available on any of the TV's at any time though, but for small families with homes pre-wired with coax, its a great solution.TechClickerhttp://www.techclicker.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-890305359381273217.post-20648001449856894532010-06-09T08:49:53.046-07:002010-06-09T08:49:53.046-07:00Hi George, great ideas. I'll check out VLC. Thanks again!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-890305359381273217.post-33804980219624599212010-06-09T07:42:59.279-07:002010-06-09T07:42:59.279-07:00Hi George,

VLC, Winamp, Windows Media Player, etc will do this. Create your playlist and set the player for random mode. Multiple playlists would approximate different channels.

You might also be interested in checking out VLC's built-in streaming capability. A VLC stream is even more like linear TV in that you "tune in" to a stream. There are *lots* of options in streaming including multicast (allowing multiple computers to watch the same stream at the same time). This is definitely a bit of an advanced feature.

VLC can do this and more, but I'd bet that a simple playlist will do what you want with minimal effort.

Of course, beyond watching your own local content, you might be able to find this on the web as well. However, then you would surely get commercials, etc.

Lastly, my Kids have really enjoyed watching the one or two local broadcast channels that show kids programs most of the time (e.g. like PBS Kids).

GeorgeGeorge Hines (mrthreeplates)https://www.blogger.com/profile/14804507713384890711noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-890305359381273217.post-43408684851254060132010-06-08T11:53:11.017-07:002010-06-08T11:53:11.017-07:00Hi George,

They don't want to have to think about it. I'd love to see a way to have my own internal "channel". for example, I could maybe go buy every season of Sonny's Suite Life with Hannah Montana and rip to xvid or some format. Then a quick randomize to make all of them into a "channel".

Have you seen anything like this?

Another GeorgeAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
